What are the goals of Scouting and Pack 24?

  • Boy Scouts of America has been shaping young men since 1910. The following purposes have been developed to help:
  • Positively influence character development and encourage spiritual growth.
  • Develop habits and attitudes of good citizenship.
  • Encourage good sportsmanship and pride in growing strong in mind and body.
  • Improving understanding within the family.
  • Strengthening the ability to get along with other boys and to respect other people.
  • Foster a sense of personal achievement by developing new interests and skills.
  • Showing how to be helpful and do one's best.
  • Provide fun and exciting new things to do.
  • Preparing boys to become Boy Scouts.

Pack 24 encapsulates each of these ideals in an environment of fun. Your son's development is key.

I've heard that Scouting is camping, camping, and more camping, and is a lifelong commitment. Is this true?

In a word, no. This has become one of the biggest misconceptions of Scouting. Students or parents need not have any previous experience in Scouting. Our activities include two overnight campouts during the year. Pack activities are usually once per month, and the dens meet on a convenient basis. Should your Cub be inclined to follow the path of achievement, he will be well prepared for the Boy Scouts by his Pack 24 experience.

What activities will take place during the school year?

Please refer to our complete activities list. These functions are coordinated by the Pack Leaders, with assistance from parents. The dens also meet to complete advancement achievements. The den activities are coordinated by the Den Leaders.

What is the time commitment for the Scout parents?

It would be difficult to fulfill the goals of Scouting without parental involvement. Specifically, volunteers have accepted the roles of Pack and Den leaders, but volunteers are needed for Pack functions. This allows for a smooth flow of events, and ensures that the boys have  role models present. It is not, however, a requirement of each Cub parent to be at each event.

Please ask a Pack or Den leader if you have time to offer, and come see the boys grow!

What is the time commitment for the Scouts?

To capture the full Cub experience we encourage full participation in Pack and Den activities. Please advise your Den Leader if you are unable to attend a scheduled function. Please be on time for the events.
