Pack 24 has concluded it's Pack Event schedule by holding the Annual Blue & Gold Banquet. Yet another record gathering was present to view or participate in the advancement ceremony. Approximately 175 Cubs, parents, and siblings were present to see the Cubs receive awards for he year. True thanks go to the parents that helped make the evening a success. Our Weblos II Den of 9 boys all achieved Cub Scout's highest achievement, the Arrow of Light. Pack 24 congratulates all of these boys who have proved themselves worthy of the award. April 26, 2002 Please send in the response slip for the Blue & Gold Banquet May 10th if you have not already done so. We need to know if you are coming to this special event! Please respond ASAP to Stuart McKendrick. The Bears will have a meeting on May 7th immediately after dismissal. Their final Den Meeting will be held May 18th, time and location TBD. April 26, 2002 The annual Blue & Gold Banquet is being held on Friday, May 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the Stuart Hall Cafeteria. This is our final event of the year, and the time that your son earns his achievements earned during the year. Please make every attempt to attend. A flyer went home yesterday in Childpost, and can be downloaded in either DOC or PDF formats. Please return the stub to Stuart McKendrick by May 3, 2002. The Weblos II Den is wrapping up their requirements for the Arrow of Light Award this weekend. The boys and Den Leader Brad Simonson are heading for a campout aboard the the USS Alabama with Troop 48's Boy Scouts. Troop 48 is where our Cubs traditionally move up to when continuing into Boy Scouts. The Arrow of Light Ceremony at our Blue & Gold Banquet is being conducted by Troop 48. The Wolves Den Leader Chuck Ponder has issued a memo to Wolf Den parents. The memo is a reminder of the activities that your son must complete to move on to the Bear level. You can download the DOC file. Congratulations to Tiger Cub James Kock, whose drawing was selected as Margaret Orr's Weather Picture winner today. April 16, 2002 Our next Pack Event, the Spring Kite & Family Day is this Saturday! Bring the whole gang to Audubon Park to fly kites and enjoy a yummy lunch. The Weblos will launch their rockets! Come as you wish from 10am -3 pm. The event notice is posted here in PDF and DOC format. Please note that the Blue & Gold Banquet has been moved to Friday, May 10th. The time is still 6:30 pm. Please mark your calendars with this change. The Weblos II Den had a very informative Den Meeting yesterday. Dad Ron Anderson made the engineering presentation, and completely captured the boys. Thanks Ron! March 30, 2002 The Weblos II group has two Den Meetings remaining this year. They will be held on April 15 and April 29 after school. March 25, 2002 Fantastic weather and the desire to head outside made for a remarkably well attended Spring Campout. Thirty- nine Scouts and parents visited the Insta-Gator Ranch & Hatchery, and eighty- two were present for the campout at Global Wildlife Center. As always, many thanks to those that assisted and attended. Pictures have been added to the site from the Spring Campout. Thanks to Chris Rowley for his super shots. Please send any shots that you would like added to Stuart McKendrick. Additional photos of other events will be posted soon also. Our entire Weblos II Den attended a meeting at Troop 48 on Monday evening. This is an important step in their preparation for the Arrow of Light and continuation to Boy Scouts. Congratulations to Brad Simonson for garnering 100% interest and participation. March 20, 2002 A flyer will be going home in tomorrow's Childpost with directions to both venues. You can download it here if you need it. March 19, 2002 Our Spring Campout is this weekend. Please join the Pack for an eco-tour of the northshore. The weather at Global Wildlife Center looks quite promising for the trip. A flyer went home last week in Childpost with trip information. Please return the flyer via school to Stuart McKendrick ASAP. Directions: A map is not available for Insta-Gator at this time, though clear driving instructions are located here. When traveling on to Global Wildlife Center, the easiest route will be to return to I-12 and follow the map posted on Global Wildlife's site. Please note that Campout participants are responsible for their own lunch and dinner on Saturday. Lunch is recommended as "on the run" between Insta-Gator and Global Wildlife. Pooling your dinner menu and necessary equipment with others is recommended. Pack 24 will provide a dessert treat and breakfast of assorted fruit, cereal, juice, milk (white and chocolate), and a few surprises. February 24, 2002 A beautiful day accentuated a smooth-flowing Pinewood Derby. The new track and computer assisted heat alignment kept a positive focus on racing. Fifty Five racers competed in 108 heats to determine the winners. Place finishers were: Third - Patrick Schmidt; Second - Jack Zeringue, and First Place - Mark Senter. Receiving awards in the car judging categories were: Best Tiger Cars - Joshua DeBlieux and Hunter Rodriguez; Best Wolf Car - Christian Holdsworth; Best Bear Car - Marcel Provensal; Best Weblos Car - Jack Zeringue; Most Outrageous - Sean Simonson, and Most Realistic - William Fitzpatrick. The following parents deserve a well-deserved thanks for their contribution of time to the event. Bill Boesch for building the race track and operation of the starting gate; Vonda Rice for registration; Lori Ryan and Leslie Schroth for excellent management of the heat boards; Caleb Didriksen for calling racers; Glenn Schmidt, Patrick Duckworth, Charlie Ward and Wayne Zeringue for calling the heat results; Pat Judge, Dawn Lambert, Sina Baldwin, Bruce Rampick, Robert Dehne, Ernest Legier, and Kathleen Parke for judging cars; Jo Ann Letten for the certificates; Wendy Hills for calligraphy; Ann McKendrick for snacks; and countless others for assistance with setup and breakdown. An event of this magnitude takes a lot of hands to make it work. Thank you all! Please, please send in those photos for the site! If you would like them returned, please indicate so upon submission. February 20, 2002 An email to parents was sent out this morning regarding the Pinewood Derby, the Spring Campout, and Den Meeting Notices. If you did not get this email, and you would like to be included on the email list, please send your request to Stuart McKendrick. The Derby is this Sunday at 1:00pm. If you still need to cut your car body, contact Bill Boesch. IMPORTANT: The Rules for our Derby will be sent home in Childpost tomorrow. You may also view/download them here as a PDF, a Word document, or in rich text. February 8, 2002 Our Scout Sunday was a nice event with a great turnout. The new racetrack is almost done - you will be able to see it when you visit the shop. A flyer will go home next week asking if you will be participating in the Pinewood Derby. We are pre-registering for the even to make it go more smoothly. Please complete the form and send it back ASAP. We have added an attraction to the Spring Campout on March 23-24th. Our plan is to leave the school at 9:30am and caravan to the Insta-Gator Ranch & Hatchery. We will take the 11:00am tour there, and when done head to Global Wildlife Center. At Global we will take the tour there, and have free time before dinner. Word has it that you can catch fish! Further details will be available about the trip soon. Discover more about Insta-Gator by reading the flyer. January 31, 2002 If anyone would like to share photos from the Sing for Your Supper or Mardi Gras Parade events, please contact Stuart McKendrick. Due to conflicts with academic and athletic events, the Pinewood Derby will be moved to Sunday, February 24. Our slated start time is 1:00 pm, though we must clear this first with the church. Bill Boesch is constructing a new racetrack for the Pack. Pack 24 encourages the Kindergarten class to come witness all of the fun! Pack 24's enlistment will be approximately 70 boys, up from 53 last year and 33 the year before. The response from parents wishing to become Den Leaders has been tremendous as well. The new Den leaders are: Tiger Cubs Wolves Bears Weblos I For a full Den Leader list, see the Pack Info page. This year we are getting an early head start on the Popcorn Sale. This is an important event for the Cubs, as they participate in a learning activity that raises funds for the Pack. Pack 24 retains a significant portion of the sales. The boys win prizes both from Trail's End and from the Pack. Last year's prizes included a sleeping bag, fishing poles, etc. A flyer will go out next Thursday with the order form. You may wish to visit the Trail's End site for information on sales tips and achievements. Contact Pack 24's Unit Kernel for more information. We have a map to the Scout Shop for those that need uniforms and supplies. August 17, 2001 The Pack is glad you're back! This year will mark a change in the Roundup format. First Grade (Tiger Cub) parents and new Cub parents are encouraged to come to the Roundup on Monday, August 20 at 7:00pm in the Stuart Hall Cafeteria. The Pack Leaders will review the program and secure the necessary forms. Parents of enrolled Cubs do not need to attend - you will receive a packet from us with pertinent information. Anyone with questions can contact the Pack Leaders. NOTE: This is not a conflict with the Father's Club Meeting. Today's Childpost has a date of August 20th, but the meeting is actually on August 30th. |
